I have particular knowledge and experience of helping women over 40. The hormonal turmoil during the menopause and peri-menopause (which can start up to 10 years before the actual menopause), causes the body to store more harmful fat around the middle, which can become very difficult to shift. It can also cause problems such as: increasing anxiety, stress, hot flushes and difficulty sleeping - all of which interfere with weight loss. I had an early menopause, so I have first hand experience of these problems and how to deal with them.
I have great success helping women lose 'baby weight' after pregnancy. I address the particular issues that may be impacting you with young children including, but not limited to: lack of sleep, family stress, juggling work and family life, lack of 'me' time. I also have techniques to specifically help with any problems arising from hormone disruption after pregnancy such as post-natal depression, anxiety, fatigue etc.

1. Unconscious Habit Changes
- We will discover what's triggering you to eat when you're not hungry, then I use a series of powerful Positive Psychology techniques (from Hypnotherapy
) to reprogram your subconscious eating habits and change your beliefs, attitudes and behaviours around food. If you're having food cravings, we'll uncover any subconscious causes. I am a licensed Hypno-Gastric Band Practitioner, so if you choose you can have a Hypno Gastric Band
fitted to make your stomach feel smaller, although the majority of my clients succeed without it.

3. Food Choices
- The wrong food choices can make you hungrier or more prone to put on weight. I give you the latest information about the best weight-loss tips for all the food groups, such as why resistant starches help, how to feel full for longer and why processed foods should be avoided (and are far more expensive).
But this doesn't mean spending hours in the kitchen or buying special 'slimmming' foods. I have a plethora of recipes for speedy, wholesome meals that I prepare as quickly as, or quicker than, processed foods and there's loads more online.
4. Stress-Busting & Relaxation
- Missing a meal, eating a sugary snack, getting upset or sleeping badly can create a surge of the stress hormone cortisol. Cortisol makes you far hungrier than normal, messes with your thyroid hormones causing low mood and slowing metabolism. This makes you reach for fatty, sugary, high-energy food and impacts your digestion. Many weight-loss programs fail, because they fail to address stress.

Hypnosis takes you to a natural trance state, similar to those we enter into many times a day, such as daydreaming, being engrossed in a book or being wrapped up in our own thoughts. It is simply a state of awareness where our concentration is internally focused. You won’t go to sleep or become unconscious. You don’t have to be relaxed to be hypnotised, simply internally focussed.
What is Hypnotherapy?
Hypnotherapy is a form of therapy that uses hypnosis as a tool to quickly and effectively ease or eradicate an issue. Our mind works on two levels: conscious and
subconscious. Our conscious mind makes decisions, learns new techniques (e.g. tying shoelaces, using new software) and beliefs about running our life (e.g. standing in the
road is dangerous). Then, once learnt, they are locked away in our subconscious, so we don't have to think about them constantly.
Thus, your subconscious mind controls your habits, emotional responses and beliefs. Unfortunately, some of these habits/beliefs are no longer helpful
(I must eat everything on my plate, even if I'm full/ cake makes me feel better when I'm sad). It can be very hard to change these habits and beliefs, but once you are hypnotized,
it's as if a secret door has been opened and your subconscious allows changes to be made.
Through hypnosis, you allow the hypnotherapist to directly communicate with your subconscious mind, which will respond more quickly to suggestions for change, than attempting
to do it by will power alone.
Will you hypnotise me as part of your program?
In general, I use a mixture of NLP and hypnotherapy. I also supply hypnotherapy CDs/MP3s for reinforcement. Mainly, we will use NLP techniques, which are as effective as hypnotherapy, quicker to use and which you can learn to use yourself. Some clients
request the hypno-gastric band, where they believe a gastric band has been fitted and their stomach is smaller - I am a licensed Hypno-Gastric Band practitioner.
What if I don't agree with these suggestions?
We will discuss and agree any suggestions beforehand If at any time you don’t feel comfortable you can terminate the hypnotherapy.
Will I say or do anything I wouldn't normally do?
No. A hypnotherapist cannot make you say or do anything that is outside of your morals or beliefs.
Can I be hypnotized to say or do things against my will?
No, a hypnotherapist doesn’t control you. You can open your eyes and leave whenever you wish. Hypnotherapy is a collaboration between the hypnotherapist and the client.
Could I get stuck?
No. This is impossible. Even if the hypnotherapist left the room you would return to a normal state in a short while, just as you do when you have had a daydream.
Am I aware of what is happening?
Yes. You will be aware of what is happening during hypnosis. Afterwards you may remember all of what was said. However, some people report forgetting some of the experience as it was simply nicer to just enjoy being so relaxed.
Will I become dependent on the hypnotherapist?
No. Hypnotherapy is a collaboration between the hypnotherapist and client working through problems and issues.

NLP stands for Neuro-Linguistic Programming. Neuro refers to your neurology; Linguistic refers to language; programming refers to how that neural language functions. In other words, learning NLP is like learning the language of your own mind!
Let’s make this simpler with an example: Have you ever tried to communicate with someone who didn’t speak your language, and they couldn’t understand you? The classic example of this is when someone goes out to a restaurant in a foreign country and they think they ordered steak, but when the food shows up, it turns out they actually asked for chicken.
This is the kind of relationship that most of us have with our own unconscious mind. We might think we are “ordering up” more money, a happy, healthy relationship, peace with our family members, and maintaining a healthy lifestyle… but unless that’s what showing up, then something is getting lost in translation and it's a very common problem. Our conscious mind thinks it's in charge, but actually a huge amount of subconsciously stored attitudes, beliefs and habits are running our lives, often without us even realizing it.
For example, what happens if you say to yourself: 'I mustn't eat cake today.' Just keep repeating that to yourself - do you find that all you can think about is cakes in all their forms? I can already see a chocolate cake covered in cream and I'm getting sooo hungry for it! This ilustrates two useful areas that an NLP Coach can help you address (amongst a myriad of others):
1> Your subconscious doesn't hear negatives (it ignores the 'mustn't'), so all it's focussing on is the cake! Thus, we always talk and set goals in positives not negatives. (Next time you nag your kids, tell them what they should be doing rather than what they shouldn't be doing!).
2> To your subconscious, your imaginaton is more real than reality - notice how you can see the details of your cake, covered in chocolate, cream, sprinkles or whatever your particular cake fantasy is? And now you can taste the wonderful flavours and textures on your tongue? So, using NLP and your wonderful imagination, I would help you to change your desires to healthier options and to turn you off of those less healthy!
In NLP, we have a saying: the conscious mind is the goal setter, and the unconscious mind is the goal getter. Your unconscious mind is not out to sabotage you, it’s out TO GET FOR YOU whatever you want in life. However, if you don’t know how to communicate what you want properly, it will keep bringing chicken instead of steak, or make you desire cakes instead of salads!.
In fact, go ahead right now and think if there was one thing you could change, one habit you could break, what would it be?
Eating a whole bag of cookies or tub of ice cream in one sitting?
Having a coffee and a chat with a friend without needing to have a muffin, just because she does?
Not eating the kid's leftovers, because you don't want them to go to waste?
Being able to ignore a colleague's birthday cake treat at work?
Whatever it is, realize that your unconscious mind only does that because it thinks that’s what you want.
Neuro-Linguistic Programming is like a user’s manual for the brain, and working with an NLP Coach is like learning how to become fluent in the language of your mind so that
the ever-so-helpful “server” that is your unconscious will finally understand what you actually want out of life.
NLP is the study of excellent communication–both with yourself, and with others. It was developed by modelling excellent communicators and therapists who got
results with their clients. NLP is a set of tools and techniques, but it is so much more than that. It is an attitude and a methodology of knowing how to achieve your goals
and get results.

The first aim of a coach is to help the client set a clear and realistic goal. Often clients tell me what they don't want, but until you know EXACTLY what you do want, you won't be able to work out how to get there. Also, we need to uncover what's stopped you from attaining the goal in the past. There will be both conscious and unconscious obstacles.
The coach is there to help the client use the resources they already have. The paradox is this: if the client already has everything they need to succeed, why do they need a coach? Working alone, many people get stuck in the same old ways of thinking. Faced with a new challenge, it can be hard to tell the best way to approach it. It might be difficult to break out old habits, or the thinking process might get into an endless circle of non-productive worrying.
The job of a coach is to provide a process to help the client move forward in his/her thinking. This means listening and asking the right questions to help the client clarify her own thoughts, also providing a framework to ensure that a new idea is considered from all useful angles, such as when goal-setting. Sometimes it means taking a systematic approach to overcoming a mental block.
If the client is stressed or dealing with the results of major changes, it can mean guiding the client through a process to release negative emotions and restore the mind to a resourceful state.
Often, coaching works with behaviour patterns that are normally outside of conscious awareness. Anything you can do really well, you can do without thinking. Unfortunately, there are also lots of things we do less well, that we also do without thinking!
Of course, I’m talking about coaching where the coach has the full range of NLP tools and techniques to draw on. NLP is an excellent addition to any coach’s skills, because it actually enables the client to re-wire their thinking. It creates new neurological pathways in the brain.
The more of this kind of coaching a client participates in, the more the mind is re-trained to use the processes unconsciously to resolve issues before the client is consciously aware of them. The key to success is nearly always in the unconscious habits.
The aim of coaching is to replace habits that lead to stress and failure with habitual processes that lead to success and satisfaction.
And the real value of coaching at the unconscious level? The client does not have to remember to do anything different, there is no fighting against natural inclinations, often clients forget that they ever had a mental block in the first place!
Coaching is a relationship between a coach and a client that enables the client to access the resources they need to succeed and to achieve their full potential.
